Yachting reflection

In week 7 of term three Nga Rakou were lucky enough to go optimist yachting. I have been yachting before so I was pretty confident. On the first day of yachting I was paired up with Brodie. It was a test for me to see if I could sail a yacht and help and teach Brodie at the same time. Brodie was a good partner and became a great sailor in no time. I think that I did a pretty good job on teaching Brodie because he got a little bit stressed when we tipped a little and I calmed him down and told him just to slide forward a bit. On Tuesday I was sick so I didn’t get to go yachting I was really gutted. One time Liam and I went togethe. I learnt that Liam was a great partner and we both got involved heaps. At first I was a little bit scared of capsizing but when me and Liam went really fast around a corner I fell out of the boat and I learnt that it wasn’t that bad and it felt good that I knew that it was ok. After that I wanted to try new things on the yacht and it made yachting even funner. When we got to capsize our yachts I helped some people capsize because they were feeling a bit nervous. When I went with Rogan we communicated really well with each other. One thing I need to work on is to be a bit more confident in myself and my abilities and remember to focus on doing my job as well as helping my partner. Overall Yachting was really fun and a great experience!

Thank you teachers.

Yachting day one reflection

                                         First day of yachting reflection.

Today was the first day of yachting. Us and room 18 were up first. I got to head over early with Liam, Lucas and Jewell. We had to set up the yachts before everyone else got there. Setting up the yachts was really fun and Mr Ford knew exactly what to do. When everyone got to Pandora pond we split up into our classrooms. We went yachting first and to start of with there was not much wind. But the wind picked up and we started to sail really fast. I got paired up with Brody. For his first time he was really confident and he was awesome at being in charge of the Tiller and Rudder. Next we did kayaking we had some free time and then we did some races I came second and Jack.W came first. The best part of the day was when we got to have free time during kayaking. Liam and I sat at the front of our kayaks and paddled with our feet and the paddle, we both ended up falling in. It was heaps of fun though.

Yacht making reflection

The positives.
Yesterday we made models of a yacht in groups of two or three. My group was Charlotte, mason and I. The best part of our yacht was probably the sail it looked cool because of the blue cellophane. I think that Charlotte and I did a good job on the sail and the sprit pole. One of the other good things was our centreboard it fits perfectly and can slide up and down. Another cool thing was our yachts name it was Ocean Blue we all agreed and we all like it.

The Negatives.
Yesterday we made models of a yacht in groups of two or three. My group was Charlotte, mason and I. Our group worked well in some parts like when we were making the rudder and tiller. Mason let us down with not really contributing. We were trying to get him involved but he was just being silly with all of the materials. So next time we make somethin in groups Mason could contribute more.

The interesting.
The most interesting part of our yacht is that it runs on wind. So when we are sail it i’m not sure if it will sail but I hope that it will. We decided to do that because if we used rope to move the sail when we put it in the water it wouldn't sail because we are not allowed to help our yacht sail. I don’t know if not using rope will help us or if it will not. Lots of the other groups used rope so it will be interesting to see whose yachts move.

Modifications I would make.
The modifications I would make would be for our tiller and rudder to work as one because right now the work separately and are not connected together. So that could be something to work on because it would be cool if we could actually steer our yacht with them. I think that we could modify our centreboard because its hole it goes into is a bit too big and water might come in and sink the hole yacht. Also our sail is a bit too big and it interferes with the centreboard.
